LIFE ON DISPLAY
Zoos & aquariums have an opportunity to be part of the solution & help rescue animals, yet most continue to take, breed, & trade exotic species for an unnatural life on display. They hold tight to the notion people need to see animals in person to care about them but that is simply not true. The very idea that we have to confine one as an “ambassador” in order to help their wild counterparts is ludicrous & underestimates our comprehension of and our dedication to, the natural world.
When I document the suffering at zoos, I am most Disturbed by the limited space, unnatural surfaces & the utter boredom expressed by the animals. I feel their discomfort, frustration & lack of privacy as people stare at them endlessly. Let’s urge these facilities to become rescue only & devote more of their resources to programs protecting the wild populations.
